The Dog and Cat Clinic was founded in 1940 by Dr. Robert Franks, a graduate of Texas A&M. He owned and operated the clinic until 1985 when it was purchased by the current owner/Veterinarian, Dr. Valri E. Brown.
Dr. Brown is a 1982 graduate of Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. Her parents were in the Air Force while she was in elementary and middle school so she was able to travel to many different places. During her high school years her father retired and they moved to Alabama, hence Dr. Brown attended Auburn University for her Veterinary training.
Upon graduation she immediately moved to Louisiana where she did a 3 month internship for a veterinarian in Minden, LA and then went to work for Dr. Franks in Shreveport, Louisiana at the Dog and Cat Clinic. Three years later in 1985 she purchased the practice.

Veterinarian and Practice Owner
My name is Dr. Valri E. Brown and I decided to become a veterinarian when I was very young, probably around the time I was in the 8th grade. I love horses, dogs, and cats and much to my mother's dislike of some of these animals, my sister and I kept finding them and sneaking them into the house. Anyway, time went on and I knew that being a veterinarian is what I wanted in life. I attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama and graduated in 1982 with my DVM degree. I moved to Louisiana for an internship, and then I ended up buying the practice after working here for three years. I have proudly owned THE DOG & CAT CLINIC since 1985! I am blessed to have a wonderful family. I have two sons, two daughter-in-laws, and three grandsons. I am very proud of my sons for the men they have become.
Arabian Horses are my passion and breeding Arabians is my most enjoyable hobby. I own a 100-acre farm on the west side of Shreveport where there are beautiful mares, stallions and babies. It is the largest Arabian farm in the state of Louisiana. I enjoy breeding and training, and I also love to spend time riding. I also have some awesome dogs and several cats that like to hang out at the barn! I love my work, and especially enjoy the interaction with the clients and their animals on a daily basis. I love my staff and appreciate the service they give to our clients and me. "Behind every great veterinarian is a great staff."
